Re: UMS can't be detected over 2 router network by ps3?

PS3 is going to do a broadcast* on 192.168.1.254 (I think that's the correct IP, either way, it's on 192.168.1...) saying "I'm here". That's going to hit the Comcast router which is on 10.0.0... The broadcast will not normally propagate to that subnet. Other than plugging the PS3 into the ...

Re: [Tutorial] Installing UMS 4.4.0 on Ubuntu Server 14.04.1

I honestly don't know if one is better than the other. I just use the real thing since I can and I don't care about GNU and all that licence crap. To me, it's all barriers to trade and knowledge. Actually, it's the other way around. The GPL ensures there are no barriers to trade and knowledge; Orac...

Re: UMS can't be detected over 2 router network by ps3?

Yeah, different subnets is probably the problem. The DLNA broadcast won't normally propagate across them. I have two subnets at home for various reasons and and trying to find the time to see if IGMP-Proxy can be used to pass the broadcast across the subnets. Once they see each other; everything sho...

Re: [Tutorial] Installing UMS 4.4.0 on Ubuntu Server 14.04.1

Great post! For SSH to be possible, ones needs to remember to select OpenSSH when installing the server, or if one forgot: sudo apt-get install openssh I have my test system running on OpenJDK (which is in Canonical's default repositories, "open-7-jre-headless", no need for WebUpd8), is th...

Re: Where is the documentation?

UMS found my Kodi/XBMC instances and Android Media Player OK. What I was struggling with was finding out what the URLs for managing UMS were (if any), how to set where my media was, manage transcoding etc. No page on the FAQ or anywhere else stated that the documentation was only available within th...

Re: Where is the documentation?

The media browsing appears to be on http://<server-ip-address>:9001/browse

You need to wait a minute or two for this to become live.

Note: This is just a browsing interface, there is no way to configure UMS; it seems one needs to do that by editing UMS.conf

Re: UMS in Headless Mode, how to find debug-file?

On my Ubuntu 14.04.1 test install, it was located under ~/config/UMS
This was when starting it from the shell script directly

I think that's a poor location, /var/log or /tmp/universalmediacenter might be better.
Log files can get thrashed.

Re: Where is the documentation?

Found a "documentation" folder in the UMS install folder and copied that to a desktop. It seems to contain basic details.

Such a shame this isn't documented in the FAQ or similar place.

Re: Where is the documentation?

I found a very basic web interface at this location "http://<server-ip-address>:5001/console/home" after scanning the logs (located in ~/.config/UMS for some reason), but no information on how to configure.

I am utterly flummoxed at the lack of documentation.

Re: Panasonic Viera TX-32AS600E renderer

Should this work for a Panasonic Viera TX-42AS650B? edit: Seems it does, I'll have to re-test with the default. Happy to provide a proper trace log is anyone can tell me how to get to the web interface to enable logging (running UMS headless). My previous problems appear to be caused by the TV being...
