Well - I didn't run into it again. However.. I also decided it was time for me to migrate my media server over to Linux. So - I probably won't see it again.

Is it possible to restrict certain folders to a specific rendering device?

It wouldn't matter if a new shared folder was needed or not - just curious if this is possible at all?
