I usually just rename the subtitle file to match the video file name. MyCoolMovie.avi MyCoolMovie.srt Your TV may be able to read subtitles, if not, UMS will automatically try to transcode with "burnt in" subtitles. (Again this all depends on your <render>.config which is used to tell UMS ...

Make UMS run OS commands?
Since UMS is running on a server/computer, why not let UMS enable you to control your server via your remote?
So f.ex. on windows, UMS would execute bat files.
Maybe it could be done as a plugin?

The best way to get help is to create logfiles which will contain info about your device and the files you're trying to play. W:\Test is a local folder.
It has subfolders containing "normal" files that normally plays with UMS.

Ok, the program could not start because of some old database version in "C:\ProgramData\UMS\database" so i deleted those files and got a bit further. The GUI still doesent launch if i try to start UMS.exe I tried to run the jar file by commandline as you suggested, i've attached the output...
