This is the startup script (in /etc/init.d) that I use for UMS.
It could be a starting point and you would just have to make a few mods to suit your system.

Re: Is there a easy way update UMS in Debian/ubuntu?
I keep all the versions of UMS I have downloaded on my server.
I have a startup script which starts UMS. Then I create a symbolic link from UMS to whichever version I want to use.
EG: satan /opt/ums # ln -s ums-9.1.0/ ums

Re: Version 9.1.0 released
@SubJunk
The fast forward problem started with V7.5.0 and all versions after that . The version prior to that (V7.4.0) worked fine.
I have the TRACE logs for V7.4.0 and 7.5.0 whilst doing the fast forward.
Where can I post the log files to?
Thanks

Re: Version 9.1.0 released
@SubJunk
V7.4 works fine with the fast forward. It was versions after V7.4 when it started.
I still have versions after that on my server so I will test each one and report which version the issue started.
Cheers

Re: Version 9.1.0 released
V9.1.0 continues to give me a problem which has been present since after V7.4. It happens both on my LG-BP550 Bluray players and my LG WebOS TV. The issue: Fast forward once (2 x) and it's fine. Fast forward again (4 x) and the video stalls for some time. Sometimes I can press the play button to res...

LG-BP550 Bluray player
Ever since V8 my LG-BP550 Bluray player has not displayed AVI files. I have managed to get it to work now with the later versions including V9.01 In the LG-BP550.conf file, this is the original entry for AVI: Supported = f:avi v:h264|mp4|mpeg1|mpeg2 a:aac-lc|ac3|dts|mpa|mp3|wma m:video/x-divx qpel:n...

Re: Universal Media Server - Media Library
How is your shared folders setup in UMS.conf This is mine as shown below. On my Gentoo server, all my media are sub directories of the shown directories. Re: Location of cache files (Linux)
The name of the files are:
medias.mv.db
medias.trace.db
Maybe try the find command from each user:
find -name medias*
EG:
satan ~ # cd /root
satan ~ # find -name medias*
./.config/UMS/database/medias.mv.db
./.config/UMS/database/medias.trace.db
