I doubt that will be possible. I know nothing about these drives, but from a quick look it seems that they are running BusyBox with an ARM926EJ-S and 32 MB RAM (Megabyte :o). BusyBox is a very "limited version" of Linux with only the most basic functions, and even though I see that there is Java support I haven't found anything about which Java version. In any case, with such a weak CPU and almost no RAM, there would be very little resources for UMS - and I doubt it would even manage to start. In addition, UMS use external programs for many things, so you would need to compile those for ARM/busybox, something I don't even know if would be possible. If you were able to get UMS to run on the environment with that little RAM, there would be no way that any form of transcoding would be possible. The CPU is simply way too weak.

You had more RAM than I anticipated, so it might be sufficient. You'd still need to compile or get transcoding engines like FFmpeg, MEncoder, MPlayer and DCRaw compiled for ARM. I also don't know what Java version the device supports.

I really have no idea how to proceed, so this is the only input I can give I'm afraid. You can always hope that someone else knows something that they will post here, but I wouldn't hold my breath. As for "installing" UMS you'd need to download the Linux version and extract the tar where you want it, but as I've said before the embedded binaries won't work. Even if you managed to compile or get ARM versions of those binaries, I can't really imagine that such a weak CPU would be able to do much transcoding. If you don't need to transcode, it could potentially work - but why would you need UMS then?

I wanted to use ums because it reads iso files. I may just end up using a windows or ubuntin machine trandcoding is important

Yes, and UMS needs to transcode to read ISO files.

i just remember i have devices (mybook live, android boxs even obhai) and runs linux that can be ssh into. all have usb that can be use to run a ssd drive. this can be use to create ram as need so now the issue is how to push ums and kodi to it and leave it on all the time. the next step is the data comes in thru kodi and is outputed to ums for upscale then out to display device. you already have something about the url the data coming from in place so maybe you just need to transfer the url address from kodi
