No media renderer with Mageia Linux

Post by Papipio »

Bonjour,

With Windows XP, UMS runs well with my SAMSUNG TV for watching videos and photos stored in my desktop PC.

Now I mainly use Mageia Linux.
With Mageia Linux, UMS don't find any media renderer. What can I do for solving my problem ? Is there a parameter to modify in the firewall ? ... ?

Sorry but I am running UMS on Windows. Maybe we can check the debug.log to find something when you follow the instruction written in red above.

Bonjour,

Thank you valib for your answer ...
I am trying again to use UMS with my new PC running only Mageia Linux.

IP address of my Samsung TV is 193.168.0.100.
I attached ums_dbg.zip.
Have you a solution for making my TV appearing as a renderer ?

About my local network:
- modem box : Orange Livebox – 192.168.1.1
- mask : 255.255.255.0
- fist address : 192.168.1.10
- last address : 192.168.1.150
- connected by an Ethernet cable to this modem box : TPLink WiFi + Ethernet router – 192.168.1.40
- connected by an Ethernet cable to this TPLink router : Samsung TV - 192.168.0.100 – Correctly connected to Internet, but impossible to define a static address in DHCP of modem box (all addresses possible are 192.168.1.x)

The problem is that your TV is on different subnet. The UpNP/DLNA protocol works only on the same subnet. The TV must have an IP address in range 192.168.1.1 - 192.168.1.254 when the UMS uses the address 192.168.1.10.

EDIT: what working mode is set on your TPLink router? For the net configuration you have it should be set to the AP mode and it seems that you use the Router mode. Where is connected your PC with the UMS? I assume that is connected to the Orange Livebox. Try to connect it to the TPLink.

EDIT2: Also in the log I see that the

Code: Select all

libzen
and

Code: Select all

libmediainfo
libraries are not installed so the UMS will not work properly.

Bonjour,

Thank you very much valib for your answer.
I understand what you mean, even I have to learn a lot about networking ...

IP address of PC running UMS is 192.168.1.10.
I installed libzen module.
I am to test a direct Ethernet connection of my TV set to my Orange Livebox.
I am to test a direct Ethernet connection of my PC to my TPLink router.
And I am to try to set my TPLink router to AP mode.

Bonjour,

I installed the 2 available libzen modules for Mageia.

With a laptop PC connected to the WiFi network of my TPLink router (address = 192.168.0.103) and my TV set connected with an Ethernet cable to this router (address = 192.168.0.100):
- everything is OK with PC booted with Windows 7 and running UMS,
- no TV set detected with PC booted with Mageia Linux and running UMS.

What can be the difference between Windows and Linux for UMS ?

This could be a wrong Linux instalation. This is the time to follow the instruction written in red above and send the log.

Here attached is a new debug file.
I guess that I must first solve the network problem: why the renderer is not found by UMS ? (??) Is this problem linked to libzen and libmediainfo ?

I installed UMS in a subfolder of my /home folder: is it OK ?
I understand that libmediainfo and libzen are not installed in the right folder: is that right ? I installed them through the Mageia Control Center ...

I do not thing that the libzen has an influence to not connect renderers. This library is required by mediainfo.
