I also have a similar problem. I also have my PS3 wired to my Macbook pro. But I have the ethernet cable directly connected from PS3 to Mac (no router). But UMS doesn't find my PS3.

Yesterday something weird happened. I connected another ethernet cable that is connected to my router on the other floor. Then UMS did find my ps3. But I think that was because UMS found it on a wireless connection with my router downstairs, which was connected to my router through a long ethernet cable. I'm not able to connect my Macbook to the router because I only have one cable going downstairs and I'dd rather have a direct connection between PS3 and mac.

I already tried forcing my IP adress but also that doesn't change anything. Can anyone help me?

Sorry, forgot to restart after selecting TRACE. This should be the right file.

It seems that the Logs are telling me that port 5001 is in use by another software program but I have no other software with a network open. If I try setting the port to 6001 or 7001...nothing happens and the logs just keep telling me other software is using that port. Very strange...

Unfortunately you are on MAC so I can't exactly guide you but on Win it is easy to findout what is blocking port.
It can be firewall or antivirus. If disabled then on Win it is possible to run this line in CMD:

Code: Select all

netstat -ano |find "5001"
You have to find MAC equivalent by own.
EDIT:
Btw. your log shows there is no blocked port:

Code: Select all

After I tried to change the IP address in UMS, I got that message a few times.

I also got the message "no IP filter specified, acces granted to use /192.168.1.8" while I was forcing my IP to /192.168.1.6 . I thought that was weird.

Also when I try setting the exact same IP address for my MAC and PS3, my MAC gives an error that another system is already using that IP address if I try to let my PS3 connect to my MAC (this also proves there a connection alright). So it seems like both systems can't have the exact same IP address. Since then I tried to change the last digit of my IP one figure lower on my PS3. This seamed to work with PS3 Media Server but not with UMS.

I don't understand why PMS did recognize my PS3 but UMS doesn't. I have my firewall turned of more then a week now.

I know for a fact the UMS works because it worked when I connected my PS3 wirelessly but if I connect it with ethernet, it doesn't seem to find my PS3.

Also if I have Azureus running, it does recognize that software but not UMS. First I thought that was the problem of the port being blocked. But when I turned off Azureus and restarted my MAC, UMS still didn't recognize my PS3.

Code: Select all

"no IP filter specified, acces granted to use /192.168.1.8"
It means UMS detected some renderer on this IP address and because no IP filter is specified, by default UMS accepted communication with it.
Please start UMS, switch debug level to TRACE and try to connect with your PS3 (restart it and open XMB browsing if UMS is visible or check that DLNA/UPnP is enabled in PS3)
UMS should detect PS3 after some time automatically or PS3 itself announces to UMS. If not, I suppose there is some firewall or UPnP blocking on your MAC or router.
Also both devices (server and renderer) have to be in same subnet so if your MAC is 192.168.1.7 and PS3 192.168.1.8, they should see each other.

Ok, it didn't work first but I finally got UMS to find my PS3. I noticed in my MAC's Network Utilities that the IP address is 192.168.2.1 for ethernet connection so I tried to set the same IP in my Network Preferences for Ethernet connection on my Mac and 192.168.2.2 on my PS3. It took a while for UMS to find my PS3 but now it finds it really quickly.

Anyway, thanks a lot for your help, ExSport! ;)
