Java 8 Prompts for Incoming Network Connections

Post by michaelt »

Why is this requiring admin privilege and what ports are opened?
The system firewall should be in control of this, not a user process.

Doesn't happen for me but that's on Windows. I know that after all the security scares with Java 7, they beefed it up in Java 8 and possibly went overboard

Could be but Java7 also prompts.

What I find odd is the default Apple PF settings are not good enough and I have to stop PF to run at all! It requires an admin override and to port(s) ??? Why??

I had a good handle on WaterRoof security settings but PF and IceFloor are another animal. Still working on understanding the overall scheme and the IceFloor user interface.

not to burden you with to much but when did you see this start to happen?
I'm trying to replicate the issue but having no luck, so i need to see what your setup is different to mine

Not a burden - It's what I do.
First noticed in the beginning when I went from 5.0.0J6 to J7 & 8. The pattern has continued since.

I will uninstall IceFloor to eliminate the connection.

BTW - is there a way to default logging to "Trace" to capture more of the startup info?

IceFloor Uninstalled - no change - still prompts.

Anything else I can do to help?

Well, no as i only have Netbeans (IDE to build UMS), dmgCreator, and Filezilla installed on my OSX i'm buggered to know why it's doing that. Not sure how your strict settings may affect it, can you give me more of a insight. If you need to PM me with those details feel free
