Setting-up UMS for iTunes
Hi, I am running a OS X 10.10.2 Mac. I am trying to use UMS 5.1 to stream audio, photos and videos to a Sony Bravia KDL TV set. Photos and videos show up seamlessly.
However, I cannot manage to stream my iTunes 12.1 library to my TV set. I have tried enabling the "Display iTunes library" parameter as well as sharing the users/[...]/music/iTunes library manually. Either I will get some sort of a white noise in the first case, or nothing in the second one.
What am I missing?
Thanks for your help.

Re: Setting-up UMS for iTunes
Hey there,
First a question for you:
Are the files you are trying to play aac files , if yes then check the renderer file for your tv and see what the decoding file says in what the aac files are transcoded to.
I found out for the PS3 the aac files are transcoded to altrac and this will give the static sound.
When I change this to lpcm the files play just fine.
Maybe you can give this a try for your renderer file as well.

Re: Setting-up UMS for iTunes
I now have a certain number of songs left. However, when I double click on a song to listen to it to see if iTunes can "find it," it will end up playing another random song. This happens randomly when I'm trying to listen to any song. It's hard to explain, but basically I can't listen to specific songs that I click on. I have the "shuffle" disabled.

Hey,
The song which your renderer starts to play,is this a song further on in line.
With my Yamaha receiver for instance , when a song can't be played he skips to the first in line which he can play.
He can skip about 7 to 8 songs in about 2 seconds so it might be worth checking your logs if this happends.

I have had a look at the Sony-BraviaW renderer file used by UMS for my Bravia-KDL TV set. Here is what I can read in the Audio section of this .conf file:
# Supported audio formats:
Supported = f:aac n:2 a:(?!alac).+ m:audio/x-m4a
Supported = f:atrac n:2 m:audio/x-oma
Supported = f:mp3 n:2 m:audio/mpeg
Supported = f:wav a:lpcm n:6 s:48000 m:audio/wav
Supported = f:wav n:2 s:48000 m:audio/wav
Supported = f:wma n:2 m:audio/x-ms-wma
Could you please clarify what I should do to test your workaround?
Thanks

What I did in the PS3 config. file is in the first line I replaced (?!alac) to lpcm.
then restarted the program , so not only the server and after that I was able to play any mp3/aac file from my itunes library.
I hope this will work for you too.
Keep me posted.

Snakebyte,
Thanks for your suggestion. However, I tried your workaround and I keep getting a shrieking white noise on my TV set.

Sorry then,
This what worked for me and still does with the latest UMS version.
This is also about all I know about adjusting the files so maybe someone else has suggestions on this.
