[Solved] PS3 not found as renderer (but Chromecast is)

Post by OrganisedChaos »

Hi all,

I've been trying to get UMS working on my setup for a while now, but to no avail. After seeing an OSX update re: wifi connection issues I tried once more with several versions of USM, my PS3 and Mac simply refuse to communicate with each other.

My PS3 sees my NAS as a media server. Both Mac and PS3 can see each other when running Bootcamp/Win7 and my mac can see my chromecast as a renderer, ruling out any hardware/router issues.

I've updated Java to v8 and checked for any new updates.
OSX's firewall is off and I don't have any 3rd party firewalls installed.
I've tried forcing networking on en0.
I deselected all renderers except PlayStation, Chromecast, Xbox and the D-Link folder (brand of my router).

I'm sure I've overlooked an option, but I can't figure it out!

Whats your wifi listed as in the network interfaces section?
Can you do a trace log with the interface selected as auto (which should be nothing selected i think).

Whoops, typo in my previous post. I forced en1, not en0.

I only have blank, en1 and lo0 as choosable interfaces I can force to.

Also, I dusted off my old 360 and USM recognised that as a renderer, but when I try to choose it as a video source, it comes up with "Connection failed: Can't connect to the PC. A firewall may be blocking the connection."

On both the PS3 and 360 I can access my NAS server without issues,

mate is it possible to use the default port of 5001 and do the test again. I'd like to compare the results as i'm not seeing any reason why in your log's it should work (or even another port other than 6001, maybe 6003)

I tried several ports, but no cigar. Infuriating, right?

I added my mac specs as well if that's any help

There is an error in the log
[UPNPHelper] Unable to bind to 1900, which means that PMS will not automatically appear on your renderer! This usually means that another program occupies the port. Please stop the other program and free up the port. PMS will keep trying to bind to it...[Address already in use]
which may cause the problem.

I tried other ports. What else could I do to test other options?

The port 1900 you cannot change. It is the UDP port used by UPnP protocol for discovering devices see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_Plug_and_Play In the built-in help or in Wiki https://github.com/UniversalMediaServer ... Networking is written
To get UMS running you have to open port 1900 (UPnP discovery) and 5001 (UMS).
So you have either blocked this port by firewall or other SW uses it.

I turned on Internet Sharing (under Sys preferences>Sharing) and then UMS magically appeared!

I knew it was a question about just ticking a box! Thanks for the help, you two!
