How to install on Max OSX Yosemite

Post by sbcampbe »

Please excuse my total ignorance... I really have been scouring these forums and Google to figure this out on my own.

I have a brand new Mac with OSX 10.10 Yosemite installed. I just downloaded Java 8 from Oracle's website. I then downloaded UMS-5.1.3-Java6.dmg. When I run UMS I get an error... "you need to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime". I hesitate to install an old version of Java on a brand new system. Should I download a different version of UMS?

TIA

Hey there,

When you click on the Apple logo on the UMS homepage you will indeed download the Java 6 version of this wonderful program which is still the default version.
Next to the Linux penguin however you find downward pointing arrow.
When you click on this you will find alternate versions included the Java 8 version of UMS for Mac.
This can be installed without having the standard Java 6 for Mac installed.

I hope you can get this to work like this.

Yes - use Java 8 - it works fine.
MacPro5,1 - 2.8 GHz, 32 GB, 20TB, OS X 10.11.6,
. . . . and a few others.
Samsung UN55C8000
Home Theater (WIP): OS X based now, dedicated Linux later.
