Do me a favor and check this directory /Users/marco/Library/Application Support/UMS/ and see if this file, UMS.conf is in there. If not create this directory and place the file below in there and restart UMS. Let me know how it goes

Hi Optimus,
it was the first thing I have checked, but it did not help !
I have saved the log but i think it is always more or less the same.
I attach also the file debug.log where it says:
Error killing old process java.io.FileNotFoundException: /Users/marco/Library/Application Support/UMS/data/pms.pid (No such file or directory)
Indeed i could not find any directory named /Users/marco/Library/Application Support/UMS/data

I'd just like to add a comment regarding Buccia's issues. I was running OSX 10.7.5 with java versions 7u-17 and I also tried 7u-21. UMS 3.0.0 would not start at all. I was getting the same messages in the log that Buccia was getting.

I have just recently upgraded to OSX 10.8.3 and have java 7u17 installed and UMS is working fine. I don't know what fixed things but I can provide a log if need be.

This is the biggest problem i'm having, i know from other stuff on the internet (google) that java 7 app launcher has issues on Mac versions 10.7.x. i'm trying to isolate the issue and when i have a fix i will get it out. I think it has something to do with where main files are read in the directory for the java 7 launcher. Normally (10.8.x onwards unless some tells me otherwise) it will launch UMS from the .app/Contents/Java directory and read all the other files from the .app/Contents/Resource directory. But this maybe different in mac 10.7.x versions and i'm stuck for time due to work commitments. If you guys have any thoughts please share, i'm sorry for not trying to get a fix sooner but time is something i'm running out of atm (work pays the bills).

Dear Optimus if updating to 10.8 solves the issue, i have no problems to do it, let me know what you prefer i do. To run tests maybe it should be better to stick to 10.7 and solve the issue.

Marco, i think your right if you can stay at 10.7 for now and i'll try and come up with a fix in my free time tomorrow. Cheer's to all who have helped so far

Edit: Marco could you trash your /Users/<Username>/Application Support/UMS Folder for me and try and restart UMS. could you tell me the results. Sorry if you have already done this, trying to find simple fixes first

2ND Edit: It looks as though the JavaAppLauncher used in UMS (My custom built one, needed to run UMS on java 7) might, and i want to emphisize might, not have compiled to allow 10.7 compatible binaries. I will test and attempt to fix by tomorrow night my time (+10 GMT). Sorry it's taking time

3rd Edit: I've attempted to test and find the problem with not much success. Funny thing is i can replicate the issue on a 10.7 VMware image, even if UMS doesn't launch (due to a known 10.7 Java 7 VMware issue, not related to this issue) .
So until i can fix the problem or get a copy of 10.7 to run on my actual machine i might not have a fix. Any help or solutions would be great, sorry for the bad news

Buccia, i still can't find the cause of the issue, like i said in my previous post i can replicate the issue but even if i populate the application support directory with all the correct data it still fails to work. Not sure what the issue is but what is the result of a uname -a on the terminal. could you post the result as id like to compare my VMmachine OS-X version to yours. Thanks but it may just have to be support for 10.8 for UMS 3.0 for now until i find a solution

Update: Well i've compiled a JavaAppLauncher on OS-X 10.7 thus eliminating if that was the cause. Not sure what the actual problem is now, so i'll keep working at it and hope i stumble upon the problem.

Update 2: Look's as i might have found the issue, i will attempt to fix and let you know how i go (Code issue, but specific to 10.7.X)
