MKV issue with 3.0.0-a4

Post by DeFlanko »

This Test is Half and Half, but calling it a FAILED:

DirecTV, but went to the Transcode folder to try each of the transcoders... MEncoder failed, AVISync failed, FFMpeg showed video but no audio.
-- now i think it failed out of the gate because i have the CONF file set to use MEncoder... how can i setup Custom FFMpeg settings? Either way MEncoder is not working.

Will test on PS3 in the AM...

This test on the PS3 PASSED:

weird..

MKV's are absolutely fine on PS3... other renderers no so well... I think its because of MEncoder being the primary Transcoder, while FFmpeg was fine (just some audio issues that needed to be forced and i think it would have been ok.)

So as i go through some of the forum members i'm seeing a lot of the issues are related to 3D MKV files...

I don't have a 3D anything(TV, or File) to test this with.

So but i did find this over at the Mastroska site: http://matroska.org/technical/specs/notes.html
The 3D support is still in infancy and may evolve to support more features.

The StereoMode element used to be part of Matroska v2 but it didn't meet the requirement for multiple tracks. There was also a bug in libmatroska prior to 0.9.0 that would save/read it as 0x53B9 instead of 0x53B8. Readers may support these legacy files by checking Matroska v2 or 0x53B9. The olders values were 0: mono, 1: right eye, 2: left eye, 3: both eyes
I also think this forum went into some detail about this as well: http://www.makemkv.com/forum2/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=6081

Thoughts?

Mate, i'll have a look into it, but i'm in the same boat as you. I don't have a file but i do have a 3D TV. So i may attempt to convert a 3D movie i have to test but i'm not sure it will be a greatly used feature.

AFAIK we aren't able to support the type of 3D files they are talking about (where each video stream is stored separately) because DLNA doesn't support that.
However most 3D files online are SBS (side-by-side) or OU (over-under) which has both video streams joined into the same video stream. We do support those files and if they don't work it's a bug
