Save transcoded Files?

Post by morisato »

i love the transcoding engine of UMS, it just works i wish there was a way i could Have it default to save the transcoded file on my pc as it streamed it to my PS3, when transcoding occurs Allowing me to in future Use the transcoded file instead of the MKV.

You don't want it ;) When transcoding 1080p MKV file, bitrate can be more than 200-300Mbit = 25-40MB/s.
1. for 30MB/s bitrate, 90min movie will have 158GB
2. From memory you can easily feed PS3 with bandwidth of 300Mbit but from physical harddisk (like green line), it is sometimes impossible to feed this bitrate constantly without stuttering (depending on computer/harddisk specs and disk fragmentation)
There are better SW which can be used for encoding, not UMS which transcodes to "poor" MPEG2 ;)
You can save transcoded movie also directly in PS3 but I am not sure if internal PS3 harddisk has sufficient performance to read 30MB/s but you can try it ;)
