Always run as service

I propose that the UMS "service" become a headless back end that runs the entire system. Modify the GUI so that all it does is act as a UI to the service, communicating options changes and interactions to the service itself. This would allow the flexibility to use more than one kind of UI, and also prevent users from having to manually install the service.
