Windows Server 2012 Essentials

Post by Triplefun »

UMS 1.6.0 works on Windows Server 2012 although I have yet to learn how to install it as a Service
The install included Avisynth; I manually installed Java Runtime 64 bit
I also loaded Shar007 Windows 8 codecs (32 bit, version 1.2.2) with all codec settings pointing to LAV
I had to open inbound ports on the firewall including UDP 3843, 1900 and TCP 5001
This marks the beginnings of a great WHS replacement

Windows Server 2012 Essentials is magnificent

As an update I have UMS now installed as a service
By default, w2k12e does not allow services to interact with the desktop. You need to update the registry ..

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Windows
Set "NoInteractiveServices" to 0 (it defaults to 1)
Then restart the service

I also found I had to install Java 32bit. UMS ran fine as a desktop application without the Java install.
Alternatively modify the 'wrapper.conf' in the program files (32)/Universal media server/win32/service to point to Java 64.

Having forced the write back cache settings on the Megaraid 8480e card, I am now able to copy files to the server for playback.

With UMS 2.2.1 I can render all video types using the PS3 except straight FFMPEG - need Transcode and use FFMPEG/dts.
