Upgrading from UMS 4.40 to newer version any benefit?

Post by jp0213x »

I am in the process of upgrading my hardware this week. I have a dedicated server where I watch all my content. I stream to two ps3s using UMS 4.40 and works well. I was thinking about upgrading to a new version of UMS not sure if I will benefit from anything. Is there any real performance upgrades with the new version of UMS when streaming to the ps3? Also if I decide to stick with the current version, is OK to upgrade to the latest version of java or should I continue to use java7.x?
I know UMS has come a long way but I started off with ps3 media server years ago and it was very temperamental. My rule with PMS and UMS, once you getting working leave it alone.

Some of the coolest things we have added since 4.4.0 are the ability to pull episode titles from IMDB, a redesign of the Status tab, increased transcoding speed and overall speed, and also stability improvements on PS3 for some files. I use PS3 and the latest UMS works great for me.
