Hi,

Is it possible to run Universal Media Server on tablet with Windows 8 or Windows 10?
It will be used for transconding mainly 720p wideos.
About hardware - something like Kiano Intelect 8 3G MS.

Best Regards,
Michal

Because of the CPU power but you can try it and give us the result. In principle it may work for streaming videos but in case the transcoding is needed there could be a problem.

Also, i suspect your tablet can only run windows in "tablet" mode..
If your tablet is really able to run windows in "dekstop" mode, then yes it might be able to run UMS, but transcode 720p?..no way.

the Kiano Intelect 8 3G MS only has an atom cpu right ?

no, most definetly it won't be able to transcode anything (i have an asus vivotab8 with z3745 in it)
also your wifi card will just burn out quicker with this kind of back and forth heavy traffic.

i wouldn't even dare with a 2000$ Micro$oft Surface with an intel i7 quad core, just the wifi card alone would burn out too.

you're better off watching the videos on your tablet than burn out your cpu and wifi.

the 30,000 ft answer:

Typically a Tablet is a Client device. Whereas UMS (the S stands for Server) is installed and hosted on a Server like hardware.

Client devices typically dont' have the power (CPU, RAM) to transcode, store media (hard drive space), or bandwidth (typically wifi only) to supply media to several devices at once.
