Any differences among UMS builds on different platforms?

Post by smirk »

Hi, I've been running UMS for a while now on my Windows Home Server box. I'm thinking of moving the server OS to Linux, possibly Ubuntu + Amahi. Are there any UMS issues to be aware of, anything that's different between the Windows and Linux builds? Or will it work exactly the same, with the same engines and codecs?

Thanks!

It will run best on Windows because the MEncoder and FFmpeg builds on Linux are screwed up so you have to compile your own versions of them which is a pain...

Screwed up? Is that a temporary thing, like a bad build got packaged, or do you mean it's a licensing thing where you have to compile yourself from source?

I tried to build those programs for Linux but it's too difficult, it was taking up all of my time so I had to give up on it. So from 2.7.0 onwards, users will have to go back to compiling their own MPlayer and FFmpeg builds (which is how PMS has always done it, and how UMS almost always did it)
