Sony finally released a media player for the ps4!

Post by Gareee »

Just tested it out with UMS, and here are initial findings:

File playback seems slightly faster than on the ps3.

Compatibility with file formats seems to be it's biggest issue. Many videos that play fine on the ps3 either pop up audio error compatibility issues, or error out playing.

Fast forwarding or back seem faster on the ps4, but there doesn't appear to be any thumbnail display option (like every 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 15 minutes, ect.)

I was hoping to finally be freed of relying on our ps3 for media playback, but at least with this initial release, compatibility playing common file formats can be problematic.

I tried watching a 20-minute video and it got cut-off half-way through.

This is great news! Can one of you please post a trace log after connecting to the PS4 so I can create a renderer profile from that? Thanks

There is some popular audio format they aren't supporting. I need to look at my files to see what it is. Even some popular fairly new releases, like 1080p guardians of the galaxy have unplayable audio.

Tried to play some mkvs on PS4, cant get them to work.

They have a DTS Audio track, maybe same issue as on XboxOne?

Tried to create a profile with the XboxOne settings, but wont work :/

@jumperzz2014: unfortunately ps4 media player does not support the DTS audio format.
