Ps4 to Laptop hard-lined

Post by sacredpotion24 »

Hello everyone I was wondering if i could take a cat6 hard-line from my ps4 straight into my laptop for a LAN setup with streaming in the media player (Ps4 app)?

if this has been answered please forgive me i have searched everywhere i could on google but to no luck as you see.... again... I just wanna take an Ethernet cable from my laptop to my ps4 and stream some files.. is that possible?? and if so how?

Reason being... one device an reach the router while the other is wifi... and i would REALLLLLLY like to just keep everything running over a cable..and less way points in the lan the better if possible. I realize this cuts the internet out of the picture and that would be fine.

Thank you, Mike

With a crossover cable that could work; the only way to find out is to test it out yourself. You'd want to set static IP addresses via "IPv4" on both the PS4 and the laptop. It'd have to be something like:

PS4:
192.168.0.4
255.255.255.0 SM
192.168.0.1 DG
8.8.8.8 DNS1
8.8.4.4 DNS2
1500 MTU

LAPTOP:
192.168.0.5
255.255.255.0 SM
192.168.0.1 DG
8.8.8.8 DNS1
8.8.4.4 DNS2
1500 MTU

If it works, great. If not, and you're looking to have both devices available to connect using only a single port on a router, your best bet is to get a decent switch and make your own CAT6a cables like I did. You'll need the following equipment:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005J ... UTF8&psc=1 A switch
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0093 ... UTF8&psc=1 A crimper
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MF ... UTF8&psc=1 RJ-45s
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000K ... UTF8&psc=1 CAT6a cable

Of course, you'll want to crimp to the 568B standard, too.
