Subtitle transcoding difficulty.

Post by MCMongoose »

Been trying to send MKVs with embedded subs from PC to Samsung UE43NU7400 TV. Cannot get transcoded files to display (says please check network) and if I pick the [no transcode] option the subtitles don't keep their embedded style. Debug info attached.

I suppose that the embedded subs are ASS? If yes then the answer is that it's the feature of the Samsung TV, it ignores ASS styling and only displays the plain text.

Transcoding would be the "fix", but unfortunately UMS cannot transcode to newer Samsung TV's (since 2015).
Only workarounds is to maybe find a suitable SRT on the internet.

Or you can try to extract the embedded subtitle to a SRT file which samsung will read.
A quick google search found this tool: https://www.faasoft.com/articles/extrac ... m-mkv.html

For videotools in general i can recommend: https://www.videohelp.com/software (tested and reviewed by users)
