TV claims no playable files in folder

Post by dvandom »

Using 7.6.2 for Mac. It installed just fine. It recognizes the TV (a Philips Smart TV), and can tell when the TV is set to be a renderer or not. The TV claims it has a solid connection to the home network. I put a JPG, an MP3, an MP4, and an MKV in the folder to test it. But when I try to access the Home Network from the TV, it tells me there's no viewable files in the folder. Using the web interface, I can call up the folder's contents just fine, is shows/plays all the files. The TV is aware that a home network exists, the option didn't show up on the Home menu until after I installed UMS...it just claims nothing in the folder is valid.

I tried making the UMS folder shareable, no change.

When I click on the TV's icon in Status, and get the controls window, clicking Play just makes the TV go into "thinking" mode with a blank screen...I let it go for several minutes in case it was just being slow, no dice.

I've removed and re-added the folder. Restarted the TV and the UMS program. Same results every time. I suspect there's some sort of setting on the folder or desktop that needs changing, or maybe even in my router, but I haven't found any guidance online so far. Or do I need to make sure the UMS file folder is in a particular place in my directory structure?

ETA: Even in Trace mode, this generates nothing in the logs. Whether I hit play on the UMS control panel and the TV hangs, or try accessing via the TV and get told there's no valid files, the log doesn't add any entries.

Hi Dave,

It would still be useful to have the logs. You can follow the instructions in the Problem Reporting Guidelines to retrieve them and add them here.

Also, is this a first install of UMS or did a previous version work with your Philips TV?

New for both, first installation of UMS and a new TV.

Here's the entire log from just now. Nothing was added to it when I tried to actually use the home network and got a "no readable files" error.

Updated to Mojave (10.14.2) today, but no change to any observed behavior. (Also, "ETA" stands for "edited to add," not "estimated time of arrival.")

Hi all,

I have similar issues. I bought the Philips Oled 803 and UMS worked perfectly well for some time. After that, I only get "No files" in the folders I know used to work. I checked the firewall settings and added both UMS and Java. I did not do anything extraordinary and it really seems it has just stopped seeing folder on my PC. Can someone please help the brother out? Attaching the config file. Please help! I'm stuck

I've never tested an Android TV, so I don't know how "similar" that is to "mobile Android", but I would recommend installing another DLNA application. On "mobile" Android you have for example BubbleUPnP which works very well for browsing. In combination with BubbleUPnP many people use MXPlayer for video playback, which turns your mobile phone into a pretty capable "renderer". Maybe the same can be done on a TV.

Hide friends , i was suffering the same problem with a philips tv and i solved it editing the philips-pfl.conf , in the line that saids "CreateDLNATreeFaster " , the value is "true", i modified to "faLse" save with the same name and it works.
I dont know exactly what it does and why , or if it can solve your situation , but i think they are philips tv and have de same problem , i hope it helps.

I can tell you as much as that "CreateDLNATreeFaster" is a very bad hack that skips some of the steps needed to generate a valid response to a renderer request. I don't know what whoever made it was on, but it can't have been anything good. I am very surprised that there aren't more complaints about this, since some renderer configurations has this on by default. I don't quite see the point of making the process a little bit faster when the trade-off is that the result is actually invalid nonsense.
