Possible to stream hdmv_pgs_subtitle subtitles in m2ts container to PS3 without transcoding?

I have an m2ts file that includes subtitles as an hdmv_pgs_subtitle stream. Although the video and audio stream without problem to my PS3, the PS3 does not see any subtitles available. Is the only way to do this to re-encode/transcode the video to burn in the subtitles? Or is it possible for the PS3 to received and render the hdmv_pgs_subtitle stream directly from UMS?
