The ums.jar file it the "executable" for a Java program, so as long as you use the "old" ums.jar, you're still running the 7.x version.

I don't think this issue will be solved until the developers choose to look into it.

It's a shame that the 9.0.0 line doesn't fix it. I'm going to look into this now

The 7.5.0 to 7.6.0 update was quite large so I'd like to ask you guys to do some more testing please. I would like to know which of the following files start and fail to start. That will give me an indication about which change has caused this problem.
Unfortunately I am on Windows 7 64-bit and UMS is running well, so I can't reproduce it, so I need to rely on you guys for that :)

Hello SubJunk thank you for looking into this issue.
For install method reference. I uninstall previous version then installed the next with 'Clean install' checked then see if program starts afterwords stream a video to external device.

UMS-7.5.0-3494b7e (Not Working)
UMS-7.5.0-2951db1 (Working)
UMS-7.5.0-91bc9a6 (Working)
UMS-7.5.0-965cf97 (Working)

UMS-7.5.0-3494b7e shows symptoms(?) of 8.2.0 with no debug.log created or program start.

Thanks for testing.
Please also test these:

https://www.universalmediaserver.com/up ... 0d7c08.exe
https://www.universalmediaserver.com/up ... ca556c.exe

If they work then we have fixed the problem, if not I'll post more test files :)

Ok cool, well that means we have identified that the commit that introduced this is https://github.com/UniversalMediaServer ... it/30d7c08 which isn't ideal since that was an important bugfix for Linux users, so it can't just be reverted. I'll have a look through the changes and try to identify which part could be causing this.

Is there anything in the UMS installation directory like maybe an extra file with a process dump? Often when Java programs completely fail to initialise, Java will dump a little file with a clue

Nothing appears to be created in the install directory when UMS tries to start.
edit: just to expand I tried the uninstall java restarting computer and reinstalling java to the same results.
