Subtitle does not show

Hello,

I just downloaded and installed UMS 2.6 on win8 machine. I put two test movie(one is avi and another one is mkv file, each movie with 3 external subtitles), I am able to stream the videos on my network media player. However I could not get the subtitle(.srt) to work. Then I tried to use Kooraroo Media server, that displays subtitles properly. So, I am not sure what steps to be taken in order to get subtitle working on UMS.

2nd question is how to disable Transcoding. My media player is able to play all media files I have so I do not need transcoding. There is no simple checkbox to enable/disable transcoding. The temporary solution I am using is to add file type to the box "Skip transcoding the following file extension"; but I wish to have an option that you can disable the transcoding.

Hope someone can help me.

External subtitles must always be transcoded (or muxed)

I see.

Transcoding causes the video jerky sometimes. My player can play all media type so I do not need transcoding. For KooRaRoo, I am to have subtitles even the transcoding is turned off. I wish UMS can do that in the future.

Subtitles aren't working for me either. I'm also running UMS 2.6.0 on Windows 8 64bit. Previous versions worked fine so I rolled back.

This is kinda a big deal for me seeing as my girlfriend is hard of hearing. Hopefully it gets fixed soon!

Ok so after reading a couple other threads on here about subtitle problems I figured out my issue.

Somewhere along the line in the last few releases (I haven't streamed anything lately) you must have changed the way the Audio/Subtitle priority works. Apparently I missed this memo.

All I used to have to do to get subtitles to work was un-check "Disable Subtitles" and they worked.

This seems like you're making it more confusing for us people that need subtitles even with English audio!

Either way I'm glad I figured it out. I love UMS. My girlfriend and I couldn't live with out it since most products skimp out on subtitle stuff all together.

Thanks for your hard work SubJunk! Hopefully down the road you implement an easier system for subtitles that works for everyone.

Yeah in the past every subtitle was shown, which was good when subtitles were wanted but not when they weren't. So now we use the priority settings so that it's better for a larger amount of people. If you want to go back to the previous behaviour then you can set the audio/subtitle priority to blank, which means it loads the first subtitle it finds.

Which file extensions are transcoding on the o!play? Can you post logs? viewtopic.php?f=9&t=556

Sorry for late reply. I do not want to transcode the movie, my player can play everything. If UMS can only show subtitle with transcoding, then it is a big disadvantage. I was testing different dlna server software, Serviio, Kooraroo, nero homemedia 4 supports subtitle very well, e.g. able to load multiple subtitles, idx/sub subtitles...

Hope UMS can add same function too
