Java 8u91 breaks UMS

Post by viktor87 »

I recently upgraded to version 8u91 Java and UMS is no longer visible on all devices in which I share transmissions. I uninstalled that version, I returned to Java 8u72 and everything is back to normal. I hope I can serve more people that can happen the same.

Greetings.

DUDE! I just posted that my UMS just pretty much died and then I saw your post. I updated Java like 2 weeks ago, no issues. Well, I reverted back to u72 like you said and everything is back to normal. &*%$(%# JAVA!!!!!!!! Thanks for the post bro, it saved my ass.

I concur with the OP, and am deeply grateful for his perceptiveness. As you can see in the earlier thread I commented (viewtopic.php?f=9&t=7715), since SOME recent update UMS stopped recognising my PS3. I thought it was version 6.2.2 (and now 6.3) that did it, but nothing I did (including clean reinstall, turning the firewall off etc) solved the problem. So, I just rolled the !"%(^ing Java version back to 72 and presto, UMS back and roaring.

Do yourselves a favour and disable Java updates.

Thanks for letting us know about this. Can you please try reinstalling 8u91/92 and seeing if it works? We have had reports before of new versions of Java not working, but it seems that sometimes something goes wrong with the Java installer and gives a bad install - sometimes all it takes is a reinstall of the same version to fix it.
It would be cool to rule that out if you don't mind :)

Installing the same latest Java version fixed it for me, thanks!

Same as Madoka,

I'm on 64-bit Win 7 running 64-bit Java8u91, and UMS 6.3.0 runs normally for me. But do thank those who share their experiences.
Cheers,
Ira
