2160p 4K UHD .MKV won't play

Post by viperxoc »

I have not been able to get any of my 2160p 4K UHD .MKV movies to play through the UMS. They show up on what I want to play them with, but they show up as zero size and as soon as I try to play them I get an error. I know it's not the movies as I can play them just fine from a USB memory stick on each of the same devices. My primary play devices are 2 Samsung 4K UHD TVs. I was thinking of converting them to something besides .MKV but I am sure there will be some loss if I do. Any help would be appreciated.

Attached is the Debug file and the .conf file that I am using for the TV. I can play the 4K files using the transcoding [no transcoding] folder but it's choppy and I am not sure if it's actually playing at 4k. FYI, I have a 1GB connection between the UMS and TV so it should not be choppy.

1GB/s, seriously ? So why did you limit it to 25 Mbit/s ? Set it to 0.

Code: Select all

MaxVideoBitrateMbps = 25
TRACE 2017-01-07 22:46:15.130 [New I/O worker #3] File "[www.KATZeus.com] The Secret Life of Pets (2016) 2160p 4K UltraHD.mkv" will not be streamed because the bitrate (59612700) is too high (25000000).
TRACE 2017-01-07 22:46:20.206 [New I/O worker #7] Using the video bitrate limit from the renderer config (25) which is lower than the one from the program settings (25)
It's not streaming in 4K, but use all you CPU power to downscale it instead. Check your CPU use in your Taskbar.

P.S. As a side note, all the "w:..." and "h:..." informations that you added in your renderer configuration should be withdrawed, as need to be the "mpo" format that is not supported by UMS.
I don't get the point of having Windows 64-bit and running Java 8 32-bit with UMS ?

~~ Nothing to do with your issue, but I'm just interested to know why you're using the old MediaInfo version 0.7.88 ? ~~

MaxVideoBitrateMbps = 25

is now set to:

MaxVideoBitrateMbps = 0

I don't get the point of having Windows 64-bit and running Java 8 32-bit with UMS ?
Honestly I did not know I was doing that.

Honestly I did not know I was doing that either.

Just forget about my MediaInfo version comment, as you have the latest one installed by default with UMS, i guess i was not totally wake up :roll: I forgotten that we didn't upgraded to the 0.7.91 version yet and thought that you did get an Windows 10 issue and revert it back...

Did you get some streaming improvement ?
Since i didn't saw anything anormal in your log, i think that all about bandwidth and CPU power requirements, not specific to MKV format.

Sami32,

After the changes you suggested it now works flawlessly. I am able to stream the 4K movies on my TV without any issues. Thank you very much for your help.
