It's very hard to solve something that we can't reproduce or find anything indication of why is happening. Could you post debug files as well, maybe we can find something in your log?

Also, please verify that UMS is actually closing/crashing in the task manager. UMS will show there as java.exe or javaw.exe, there should be no such task there after UMS has closed/crashed.

Thank you for the log, it got me on the right track.

This is a bug that has nothing to do with UMS but affects any Java program that opens the "file chooser" (for opening or saving files). It's a bug introduced by a recent Windows update (Windows 10 Creators Update v1703). It seems that there's a number of conditions that need to be met for the bug to manifest itself. From what I understand, only Java versions after 8u121 are affected. In addition to having an updated Windows 10 with an updated Java, a God mode folder must exist on the computer.

To avoid the bug, breaking one of these conditions should be sufficient. Since Microsoft has decided that updates should be forced in Windows 10, I guess downgrading from the flawed version isn't an option. The two remaining options should then be to either:

• Find and delete the God mode folder
• Downgrade the Java version to at most Java 8u121.

It's currently listed as a bug in the Java bugtracker, which is resolved in Java 8u141 and Java 9.0.6 whenever these become available for download.

Im having the same issue ive dropped to 6.7.1 from 7.0.0-b2 thinking this would correct it but I am getting a similar error as above in the other forums when adding a new directory the UMS system closes.

Im having the same issue ive dropped to 6.7.1 from 7.0.0-b2 thinking this would correct it but I am getting a similar error as above in the other forums when adding a new directory the UMS system closes.

Have you tried the workarounds posted two posts above your post without resolving the issue, or could you not be bothered to read the thread before posting?

What you should note while convincing yourself that you did everything correct and that I'm just a rude nerd that gets off on hurting people, is that this is a support forum where nobody is paid and we spend our free time trying to help users like yourself. Nobody has any obligation to help anyone unless they want to. Because it's not a paid support service, we don't have a lot of standard bullshit we serve you where we hope you are very satisfied with everything and promise to help you with whatever you want (as long as you keep paying). Although that isn't explicitly mentioned in said rules, we also expect users to do a minimum of investigation of the issue themselves before asking a question. This is standard etiquette that you will find that apply in most (free) support forums.

It seems that you actually did do part of that, since you actually found the right thread. But, it seems to me, that you couldn't spend enough of your time to actually read the very short thread before posting. You don't need to be a technical or even intelligent person to understand the possible solutions, all you need to do is to actually read it, which you obviously didn't do.

Do you think it's fair that I should spend my time reading your post and replying "please read a few lines further up", but it's not fair that you should spend 2 minutes actually reading the information that's already there? If the answer is yes, I can only conclude that you value your time much more than you value mine. I don't.

That's not all though. I actually spent my time to reply to your post even though it was pretty obvious to me that if you would just spend those 2 minutes reading you wouldn't need any further help. This isn't the first, or the last, time I experience that someone asks for something that's right in front of their nose. It's not the first, or the last, time make the person doing it aware of it either. But, what happened after that was a first for me. Most people will be a bit humble and say they're sorry when this happens, and everything is fine as far as I'm concerned (thinking that they've learned to try a little bit harder the next time).

I guess one can't succeed every time. I'd stay away from free support in the future if I were you. With paid support you can abuse the person trying to help you more or less as much as you want, and they will just come back crawling and asking for forgiveness. As long as the money keeps rolling in that is. The con is that you have to spend money, but the con is that your ego is left intact.
