UMS on a plugcomputer

Post by john3voltas »

I have small plugcomputer (Seagate Dockstar) where I would like to run my DLNA. It runs Arch Linux.
So far it's been working fine running minidlna but I'd like to get more features by running UMS instead.
The specs:
ARM Marvell Kirkwood 1.2GHz
128MB RAM
1TB HDD
I know that this a very low-end PC, especially when it comes to RAM (128MB...) but it is also very green (<10watts). It runs a swap of 256MB.
Do you think this hardware can be used for running UMS? I've seen UMS using >400MB (javaw) without any load.
TIA
Cheers

Might struggle to run noting the java requirements. But in saying that, it all depends if UMS is attempting to transcode the files or not. You could always give it a try and see if it does. You may need to adjust the java settings of UMS to see if it would work. I've Never tried or tested UMS on a ARM device though......

Thanks prime.
Anyway, this is a headless server so I don't know how to setup UMS without the GUI.
Any good instructions on how to configure it by hand? Or maybe configure using a web page?
Thanks

You can hack the UMS.conf manually. It isn't that hard.
