PS4 Support

Post by halfie »

Having just purchased a PS4 and hoping it could replicate everything a PS3 could do in terms of using Universal Media Server as the main way to watch my videos, I've been really, really disappointed. (Can't even watch video files off a usb-drive anymore? What the?... )

Anyway: with UMS running, and my PS4 on, what is the best way to watch videos on my PS4? Outside of Sony releasing an update in support of media servers as the PS3 had (which might be unlikely the more and more I read into it with them trying to push Playstation TV  ), is the one way to have it work is to go through the PS4 web-browser and get to the UMS web interface? Has anyone had any luck doing this? Are there any directions?

Appreciate any help or insight!

The PS4 has a very limited support for local media files. Actually, last time I checked, local media files support was completely non-existent: The PS4 is compatible with apps such as Netflix or Amazon Instant Video, but does not have much support for local files.
