How is the UMS and TV "handshake" made? What do take time?

Post by HQW »

I got UMS installed on my PC and my Samsung TV can stream files from it. But out of curiosity, I just want to know how everything works behind the scenes.

Is it the Samsung TV that is searching for UMS and then tell UMS that it want to "handshake" or is it UMS that is searching for TVs in the network?

Is it possible to somehow speed up this identification? My TV usually find shared network-folders (that is empty for some reason) long before it displays UMS in the list of sources it can play from, why does it take more time for UMS to show up?
