[Solved] No ISO or VOB Support on PS3 after installing 5.2.x

Post by Makadamia »

Hello,

I'm using Universal Media Server for quite a while, now after upgrading (upgrade and later clean install) to the 5.2.x branch, I lost DVD ISO and VOB Support on my PS3.
There is no error shown in UMS, but the PS3 says: "Format not Supported". I tried to stream the ISO file directly, then to use the transcode folder. After that I unpacked the DVD ISO to folders (VIDEO_TS & AUDIO_TS) and stream the VOB file - all with the same error on 5.2.1 and 5.2.2 after several clean installs.

It worked fine on 5.1.4, this is where I came from. After uninstalling 5.2.2 and re-installing 5.1.4 from scratch ISO and VOB work flawless.

Any clue why I couldn't use 5.2.2 to stream DVD ISOs or VOBs to my PS3?

Thanks,
ExSport

I, and at least two other people I know, have the same problem. Also since update to 5.2x.
Please help us!

You are right, new version has lot of NullPointerExceptions (spotted Netty, ChunkedTransfer and Buffering code)
The difference between versions is different MEncoder params used and downgraded Netty.
To be sure the problem is not different parameter in MEncoder path, try this in cmd.exe:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Universal Media Server\win32\mencoder.exe" -ss 0 -dvd-device D:\Movies\The_Signal.iso dvd://1 -msglevel statusline=2 -oac copy -of mpeg -mpegopts format=mpeg2:muxrate=500000:vbuf_size=1194:abuf_size=64:vaspect=16/9 -ovc lavc -channels 6 -lavdopts debug=0:threads=1 -lavcopts autoaspect=1:vcodec=mpeg2video:threads=8:keyint=25:vqscale=1:vqmin=2:vqmax=3:vrc_maxrate=44000:vrc_buf_size=XXXXXXX -font C:\WINDOWS\Fonts\Arial.ttf -subfont-text-scale 3 -subfont-outline 1 -subfont-blur 1 -subpos 98 -fontconfig -aid 128 -noautosub -sid 1 -ofps 25 -o d:\testfile.mpg
Change XXXXXXX to 1835 and later to 7000.
It should generate file D:\testfile.mpg so test if both values generates playable file (run it for a minute or two and then terminate it by CTRL+C)
Smaller value was used in working version, higher in broken one.
I expect changing this value should not generate nullpointerexceptions so problem should be other change in code or Netty downgrade but good to know problem is not MEncoder output itself.
Thx

Hi!
And again I did not see this topic, I created a new one here: viewtopic.php?f=5&p=17758#p17758

If someone could merge mine into this one, this would be great...

Thanks, both values worked out with MEncoder, here is the output:

So, if I understood correctly I have to wait for a fixed version?

Then it seems problem is not changed MEncoder parameter but something else and what I remember the bigger change was reverted Netty which can be culprit.

I have this version compiled so can post link to it so you can test UMS with Netty v3 and also with v4 to see if it is the culprit of problem.
If yes, it will be easier for developers to find the root cause.

Sure, I'll test that.

You can compile it by own thanks to UMSBuilder found here in forum or try these versions zipped:
https://copy.com/OeZLSeHzhwovJYp2
Unpack it and install EXE file. This version is with Netty v3.x
Make tests and if it will work, make same tests with Netty v4 which is included as .JAR file. Only what you need is to stop UMS, backup UMS.JAR file in install folder and replace it by JAR file from attached archive (you must rename "ums-5.2.2_netty.v4.jar" to "ums.jar")
Start UMS again and make new tests. If there will be difference, post both logs.
If both will work, root cause of your problem is not Netty change but something else.
Thx
