Linux Mint 18, UMS has no GUI

Post by ClintSwiney »

I installed UMS but there is no GUI. I did run a script found here:

After I installed via that script the GUI did start but once I rebooted it no longer does. I can start UMS as a service only now. It works but I'd like to see the GUI. Can anyone help?

I cannot gather logs without the GUI.

Please help!

There's no link for the script.. You can get the log without a GUI, just go to /var/log/UMS.

That script must do something very wrong. Why don't you just use UMS.sh that comes with the download?

You have in some way managed to configure a file called UMS.sh as the configuration file. That doesn't sound like a configuration file, the default name for the configuration file is UMS.conf. You need to get that sorted first, so if you have to use that custom script please share it.

Here's where I found the install script...

viewtopic.php?t=1939

It does not matter what UMS.sh I use, none display the GUI....

That script is too long for me to go through, but it does something wrong it seems. Rather than compiling it yourself, why don't you just download the ready-made package? http://www.fosshub.com/Universal-Media- ... -Java8.tgz

Just delete the UMS you have build yourself, download the above package and untar it to where you want it. Then run UMS by running UMS.sh

If this helps...

I downloaded the Java 7 and Java 8 versions, extracted to their own folders. If I run the default downloaded ./UMS.sh No GUI, if I run sudo ./UMS.sh it displays the GUI, for both Java 8 and Java 7.

This has to be some kind of permission issue. I'm stuck can anyone help?

That's strange, but it's just too little information here. Start UMS with "UMS.sh trace" and then upload the debug.log from that session.
