Re: PS4 transcoding problems

unfortunately no luck despite fingers crossed :(
first run didn't work and logs said ffmpeg returned error code -1 or something so checked the config file and changed TranscodeVideo from MKV-H264-AAC or something to MKV-H264-AC3 (can't remember exactly don't have config file with me) which worked for ffmpeg but same response for ps4. have now gone back to using MPEGTS-H264-AC3

When you get your log under your hand, that will be nice to share with us to see the FFmpeg error.

I never met such FFmpeg issue as you've related, the only thing that i could think about, without having any log, it that you didn't do a clean install. In that case, yes, FFmpeg should fail.

i will do another clean install to replicate the ffmpeg error and post a log when i can, but it may have just been a typo in the config as it worked once i changed AAC to AC3 (as far as ffmpeg is concerned that is)

@mik_s Thank you very much for your log !!!
It is not transcoded as it should, i still need to check why, so it is transcoded to MPEG2/MP2 in a MPEG-PS container, and as it use the AC-3 bitrate for encoding the MP2, FFmpeg fail.

@mik_s Damn...it was because i did a typo with MMV instead of MKV :(
I fixed it and added a modification, so i will try to make a new build for you tomorrow.
MKV-H264-AC3 ... which worked for ffmpeg but same response for ps4.
When you say "same response", do you mean that the streaming stopped after few seconds ?

Is it a BPL adaptor, as Broadband over PowerLine? I work with these adaptors on daily basis and I'm mostly not impressed with their performance - usually it can deliver only some tens of Mbps. Could it be that it's the BPL throttling your PC connection? Could you connect your PC directly to the router and then try play something on the PS4?

Maybe I'm completely wrong but maybe you're looking for the problem on the wrong place.

we have ruled out any network problems. connecting directly to router, directly form pc to ps4, wifi only etc all with same results. i have no issues when streaming to ps3 or to my smart tv using the same setup. it's not speed that is the problem but the ps4 being picky about transcoded files. i only use powerline as it is more reliable than wifi and fast enough for my purposes.

@Sami32 i thought it would be a typo as i came across that error when i was tinkering with the settings when doing those tests. i think at the time the ps4 just said cannot play media.
