What is "special" with this TV (or unlike most other renderers) is that it almost only supports DLNA. Most renderers support a mix of DLNA profiles and more generic UPnP MIME types. UMS doesn't support DLNA for anything else than images, which explains why everything have to be transcoded. Most renderers that can stream from UMS does so via generic UPnP profiles that doesn't have the strict requirements of DLNA. There's a few exception, where special hacks have been implemented to mimic DLNA support, in particular for the PS3. That doesn't mean that there are real DLNA support, UMS has no idea of DLNA profiles, options and flags and the rules under which these must comply.
Its not only the fact the EX Sony lineup of TVs are DLNA with no "real" (so to speak) UPNP support but (look at your quoted code again) Sony have used their own named DLNA MIMEs within defined formats. (ALMOST all the ones that have "SONY.COM" in them. Look at any NON Sony log file on this forum example from an LG or a Samsung owner and you will find they do not do things like that.

As mentioned ive been over this a bit before a looooong time ago in this thread here...
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2298&p=13269
and explained why in UMS you can not at least easily go about altering things to make it work like it would for TVs/devices that use REAL DLNA/MIME naming.
In serviio they get around it by renaming unconventional MIMEs Sony used back to SINGLE conventional naming...
https://github.com/augustf/serviio-prof ... ofiles.xml
^^^ Take a careful look at the start of that file and then search through for "BRAVIA" and look at sections particularly for the "name="Sony Bravia TV (2012)" extendsProfileId="1"" section to see how they have instructed Sony TVs to recognise several MIMEs which sony used as a single conventional MIME. Ive tried in the past to do this in UMS but with no luck, maybe you or other devs can do better.

Edit: Please let us know if the file provided by Valib fixes things for you, since we believe it should do the same thing that pre-6.7.3 did
I would not say my knowledge is in depth but i can kinda grasp why Sonys are a problem.

As to Valibs attached conf file, NO that does not work properly or to be more precise does not work how i and others would want things to work. Like all versions since the 6.7x versions i have refered to in recent discussions It does not contain the

Code: Select all

TranscodeExtensions = dvr-ms,dvr,mkv,dv,ty,mov,ogm,hdmov,hdm,rmv,rmvb,rm,asf,evo,asx,flv,m2v,mpe,mod,tivo,ty,tmf,ts,tp,m2p,mp4,m4v,avi,wmv,wm,divx,div,flac,mlp,fla,wma,m4a,aac,dts,mka,ape,ogg,shn,mpc,ra,mp2,wv,oma,aa3,gif,png,arw,cr2,crw,dng,raf,mrw,nef,pef,tif,tiff
Line so when you browse your files on the TV things that are not supported natively by the Sony TV will not be listed (IE no .AVI files get listed, no .divx will be listed) only files which one of the Sonys inbuilt MIMEs can support or rather what it thinks it can support will be displayed (with regards to video that will be MPEG, MPG and some MP4). In some cases without that line it will for example list an .MP4 file but because the codec which may have been used in that .MP4 file may not be supported by the Sony then without transcoding it the file will refuse to play entirely. Either giving the cannot playback message or just a black/blank screen with no playback or in some cases you will get sound only (if the sound part of the file is in a format the sony would natively support) without the video.

As said things worked better with regards to the SonyEX.conf file from versions prior to 6.72. To be honest though i really wish at the core of UMS something could be done to make SonyEX models recognised better, much like serviio and Plex has been able to do. The conf file AS IT USED TO BE, works but it is hardly elegent with all the transcode and video resizing options needed within it.

I don't understand what you mean here. The config that valib posted should be transcoding everything except mpeg and mp3, so we shouldn't need the TranscodeExtensions line. It seems to me there must be another bug at play here.

Right have quickly checked this morning (sorry as a family man with a new born i do not get much time to myself for stuff like this as i used to) Using Valibs file as far as i could tell quickly (do not take this for gospel in was around 5am and i was glary eyed fresh out of bed, so it was not an extensive test) it allows all files to be displayed, BUT the issue i mention with regards "some files will refuse to play entirely. Either giving the cannot playback message or just a black/blank screen with no playback or in some cases you will get sound only (if the sound part of the file is in a format the sony would natively support) without the video". Still happens without that line included. Ill try to double check later in the week to be 100% sure and compare with and without the TranscodeExtensions line in. Personally in my own config i just leave it in there as almost everything except for MPEG would have to be transcoded to work on a Sony it does not really hurt regardless.

Thanks for testing that. Please post TRACE logs when you get to test it again so I can try to see what the bug is, since the two configs (before and after) should really produce almost the same results. I can relate to your lack of time, I am a single dad raising a 2-year-old :)

Right ive done a bit more testing and used the "UMS Video Testing Suite (20150121)" files for this purpose.

I have downloaded the latest version of UMS 7.62 (complete clean install even removed old UMS folder that gets left behind when performing an uninstall from C:\ProgramData\UMS manually to make sure) and checked with both
this version
https://www.fosshub.com/Universal-Media ... -7.6.2.exe
and
https://www.fosshub.com/Universal-Media ... ne-x64.exe

For the logs which im posting i used the UMS-7.6.2-standalone-x64.exe (the issue happens for both non-standalone and standalone regardless so the issue is in both). The install is totally unaltered (NO settings altered at all NO tweaking to conf files. All has been left as a default fresh install, the ONLY thing done was adding the testing files folder "UMS Video Testing Suite (20150121)" to the list of shared files for this.

Ive checked from in detail (and a bit more awake this time) and my findings are AS I FIRST THOUGHT. AVI files and a few others do NOT get listed on the TV properly without the "TranscodeExtensions =" line included in the braviaex.conf file.

As i also mentioned previously without the TranscodeExtensions line some other files like SOME MP4 fail to list, while certain other MP4 files do show up.

It gets weirder because if from within UMS you go to the "navigation/share settings" tab and click on "Empty Media Library" then click on "quit" and then relaunch UMS AVI files will then temporarily display, until you play one or more video files and restart UMS, then they vanish again. HOWEVER that ONLY applies to AVI files, the MP4 files which are not listed do not appear no matter if you Empty the Media Library or not.

ALL files AVI and MP4 do appear (with or without Emptying the Media Libarary) if you browse for them via the #--TRANSCODE--# folder. BUT they do not show up in the main listing

Ive done a log which im attaching where AVI and MP4 files are not listing on the TV properly but do not know if it will show the issue (i quickly looked through the debug file but do not know what i should be looking for).

To try to make it easier and to try to make more sense as mentioned i downloaded the "UMS Video Testing Suite (20150121)" and used that, what i done though was slightly renamed the files to HOPE it makes spotting the issue in the logs easier, what ive done is alphabetically added numbering to the files, or in other words i renamed the files like this.....

The files which you are looking for issues with in logs with regards to files not displaying/listing on Bravias are....
01 to 04 (All 4 of the AVI files in the testing suite)

Things then get a little stranger as files numbered...
52 to 55 also DO NOT show up listed on my Bravia TV
60 to 63 also DO NOT list on the TV (files 52 to 55 and 60 to 63 appear to be MP4 files, the only common thing i can spot which is specific to JUST those MP4 files is is with regards to audio and the formats being AACLC and AC3.... could this have something do do with files not being listed i wonder?)

The other MP4 files IE those numbered 50,51,56,57,58,59,64, and 65 all DO list on the TV.
ALL MKV files list fine.

Using either of Valibs conf files, results in EXACTLY the same behaviour as the included and default Sony-BraviaEX.conf in the latest 7.62 version which i tested. SO i have not bothered including logs for them. The only way (what i know of) to get AVI files and others that FAIL for whatever reason to list on my Bravia is to add the "TranscodeExtensions =" as discussed previously. Without that line the only way to browse the missing AVI and MP4 files is to go via the #--TRANSCODE--# which to be frank is a PITA.

log files attached.

PS:
This issue is not just specific to AVI and MP4 files, i have seen it happen with FLV in the past and more, though i specifically remember it being FLV as i was trying to view some very old digital camera footage and it would not list in some version after 6.72 of UMS but showed listed fine in prior versions and if i added the TranscodeExtensions back in. (i can try to find a bunch of FLV files also if you wish to see which of those show up and do not show up in the TVs listing but i have no idea where to get a bunch of them in varying codec format i suspect there are issues with even more formats without the TranscodeExtensions included also)
Hopefully the debug files shows you something amiss, though to me and my limited understanding it looked like it was trying to read and pass all the files fine, it just for whatever reason does not end up with them all listed on the TV.

Oh damn I thought you'd be automatically subscribed for your own topic... and here I thought noone cares :)

Aaanyway, I have tried this one...

Sony-BraviaEX.conf
...and it works! AVI files are now listed properly (and not just in the transcode folder even) and play properly as well. Didn't have to use the TranscodeExtensions line that Paradox suggested, but thanks anyway. And thanks for everyone involved! <3

I would not get too excited ive spotted another issue.

FFMPEG will now be broken for some bravia devices it seems FFMPEG newer versions also now have an issue where fractional percents for input width and height will not work properly. So my work on getting that line working in the renderer conf file is now reundant :sigh:

Can you EMPTY your Media libabry and try an AVI file which is not 4:3 or 16:9 (Ie something that should have black bars top and bottom like a 2.35:1 or 2.40:1 aspect ration movie) using FFMPEG as the video engine and see what happens. I suspect now it shifts the video to the top of the screen and doubles the black bar size at the bottom. Thats what it does on mine now. Valibs file did not work on my 40EX403 TV so i can only assume if it is now displaying AVIs correctly for you thats another sony quirk that varies model to model.

Regardless if you are now happy leave things alone, there has been no revisions made to the SonyEX.conf for the recently uploaded 7.70 and 8.0 versions so if your install them you will have to make the changes to the conf again lol

:bangs head against wall: < lol

That's great news and confirms what we thought would happen. Thanks! Will include that in the next release

@paradox we fixed xvid detection in the latest version so maybe that is what helped resolve this in combination with valib's config

Yeah that's been a problem for a longer while already, but I either just *shrug*, or select mencoder, which doesn't have this bug.
