I guess it depends on how you define "easy". If you mean by using some package repository, I don't think that exists. That said, downloading and extract-overwrite the files should work just fine as long as UMS isn't working. That's certainly a lot "easier" than to rebuild for most people, but if you have all the development tools set up and configured, rebuilding might be considered just as "easy".

In my case I have a desktop icon (shortcut) for UMS. This links to ~home/Downloads/ums-x.x.x/UMS.sh . Whenever there is a new version I unpack it to "Downloads" and simply rightclick on the sortcut walmart one, choose properties and change the versionnumber in the path. Done!

I keep all the versions of UMS I have downloaded on my server.
I have a startup script which starts UMS. Then I create a symbolic link from UMS to whichever version I want to use.
EG: satan /opt/ums # ln -s ums-9.1.0/ ums
