file numbering option
file numbering option
For me it would be a very nice feature to have a file numbering option, if checked filenames would start with a list position number.
example:
Banana.S01E13.The.Cake.Special
etc a
etc b
->
01 Banana.S01E13.The.Cake.Special
02 etc a
03 etc b
suggested tab and section:
tab: Navigation Settings
section: File sorting / naming
near: Prettify filenames
example:
Banana.S01E13.The.Cake.Special
etc a
etc b
->
01 Banana.S01E13.The.Cake.Special
02 etc a
03 etc b

Re: file numbering option
Thanks for your suggestion, can you please explain why that would be useful?
Re: file numbering option
Some devices don't display the files in the order they are are received and instead sort them alphabetically themselves.
One situation I can think of is when ignoring "a" and "the" in sorting the file order, this will get ignored.
The PrependTrackNumbers option solved this for mp3s so something similar could be used for other files.
Another place that this could be useful is in the #--TRANSCODE--# folder for the same reason.
Could help with trouble shooting if the order of options was consistent on all devices, then we can advise people to use the first option for "no transcode" and second to force transcoding.
This could be broken down even further if there are subs or multiple audio tracks. The order of the engines and language priorities could determine the order shown.
Maybe something like:-

1 - Transcode using FFmpeg

1.1.1 --- English Subs
1.1.2 --- Japanese Subs

1.2.1 --- English Subs
1.2.2 --- Japanese Subs
2 - Transcode using MEncoder
2.1 -- English Audio
... etc

Re: file numbering option
it might sound weird, sometimes I can't decide what file to play, so a random number relieves me from this burden
my old samsung tv displayed the current selection as x/y (file x from y total) in the headline, the new lg does not

Re: file numbering option
Hi. I am looking in these forums to determine if UMS has the ability to show media on my TV in folder view in alphabetical order.
I understand what the OP was asking. As an example, I have taken to naming files in my movie series using a similar convention (1954 - Casino Royale (1954), 1962 - Dr No (1962)). With 28 Bonds and counting, it is the only way for me to easily see the series.
I am currently using TVersity in its files and folders more, which reflect my media libraries in traditional directory format
Library name
* Directory Name (i.e. Movies)
** Subdirectory Name (i.e. Action & Adventure)
*** Files and Folders (i.e. a Bond movie folder and any number of individual files)
**** Files (contents of the Bond movie folder)
I find this the easiest way to interact with my libraries and would like to know if UMS can do this.

Re: file numbering option
Yes this is the normal way to browse your media in UMS. There are also other options to sort too depending on if your render respects this order, some will show alphabetically no matter what order the files were given (like PS4 and Samsung TVs).

Re: file numbering option
Yup, I would love to see this feature too as someone who organizes the file it would be easier if it has this system.
