Functionality that would prevent (help) the user from opening more than one instance of UMS.

It could simply maximize/open any instance already running - by option (tickbox in gui)
Or it could be in the form of a dialog box, that when doubleclicking UMS.exe gives a warning that an instance is already running - could hold option to "launch new" or "cancel and maximize running instance"

I saw this closed request as different.

This function is already in there. It is not even configurable. When starting UMS (doubleclicking UMS.exe) it kills the old version. Now there have been some bugs in it on windows (output format of taskkill changed etc.) so it might have not worked for a while but now it should work again. Maybe it should be configurable...

I add a config which will be in the next release.
