Windows Media Player Renderer config file

Post by leroy »

Hi, I wrote a renderer profile for the Windows Media Player Renderer.

With this profile placed in the renderers folder, you can bump/push media files to
Windows Media Player, with the UMS Web interface (port 9001), the UMS GUI,
or any other media server/Control Point that supports this.

For best media support install the K-Lite Codec Pack.
All the K-Lite Codec Pack instal settings can be left at their default,
but choose the advanced install option to prevent annoying add-ons be installed!
http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm (install the Mega)

Info and issues:
  • The current renderer profile for the Windows Media Player must be disabled in the GUI or removed from the renderers folder.
  • The Microsoft-XboxOne renderer must be disabled in the GUI or removed from the renderers folder. (same User-Agent: NSPlayer/12)
  • When the Web interface 'bump' feature is used, and UMS and WMP are both on the same computer, (same IP address)
be sure that to first execute UMS, then the web interface and click on "Browse the media on .." so that the Web XMB is opened,
and at last execute WMP. This order of execution is needed to prevent that the Web player config is used instead of this WMP config.
  • External subtitles are not supported, so transcoding by UMS is required.
  • MKV files with a bitrate more than 7383415 (bits per second) of the whole file,
stutters or doesn't play at all without being transcoded by UMS,
while they can be played with Windows Media Player but then started from Windows.
Tested with software:
  • Windows Media Player 12.0.7601.18840
  • K-Lite Codec Pack 11.5.0
  • Universal Media Server 5.2.3
  • OS: Windows 7 Ultimate
The config files that I wrote for the BubbleUPnP Media Renderer for Android,
works great combined with this WMP config file.
So you can push media to the Windows Media Player from the UMS with an Android phone:

Please share issues and improvements you may found related with this config file.
