To finish this off - I've now reverted back to the version of ffmpeg that UMS 6.7.3 ships with, reinstalled the latest Java and Windows updates (removed earlier for testing), and enabled Windows Firewall and all is well - the effected content is playing without a problem.

You're on to something - turning off anti-virus (using BitDefender free) resolves the issues on all files, turning it back on sees the problem return (also tried the same with Windows Firewall as suggested with no impact either way). So looks like I'll be trying different options to replace ...

I will look at your log, but i'm suspicious that it doesn't come from UMS side. If you try and older version and you still get that issue, i guess that you've your answer. That will leave your PS3 or your network as culprit.

EDIT : If as i suspect you get that issue also with UMS older versions ...

Do you mean that UMS 6.7.3 work correclty for your PS3 ?
If yes a full trace log from that version will be appreciate.
