Well, some very good news this AM! Great success with the new modified Bravia renderer conf!

Here's the breakdown of what happened:

1. Added the Modified Sony XBR renderer to UMS.
2. Shut down UMS and restarted.
3. Deselected the stock XBR file with the "disable transcode" line ...

As a retired computer networking engineer, I'm well versed in the concept of going back to what changed just before something broke. That has gotten me out of more jams than I care to count. Well, things went from bad to worse. Realized later last night that NOTHING is playing, not the MKV, or even the MP4's I had in my media library. As soon as I launch anything on the TV, it just sits there and stares at me with that big 65" black screen, and chuckles....
So, I went scorched earth ...

Well, ok then....I've gone into the Bravia Renderer and commented out the two lines I added today, and now the symptoms have changed. The file never opens on the TV when I start it.

Well, I very happy to report the problem is finally solved!!!! I just finished watching a full episode of one of MKV files, start to finish!!

I tried your suggestion, valib, and added the code line to the renderer file, no success. Then I took your other suggestion, and went into the transcode ...

Well, good news bad news....

Thanks for teaching me something about my Mac; your instruction on doing the "Show content" was spot on. I was able to find the core Sony XBR renderer file, and add the "EAC3" addendum to the MKV file descriptor.
Rebooted everything, and ....

UPdate: Well, the thot plickens....

took an MKV file and converted it to MP4 (which worked previously with standard settings), and changed the audio format to EAC3.

Started video, and BAM! same crash/freeze right around the 4 minute mark....so it definitely is related to the audio transcoding ...

Well, after much looking, and "unhiding" of the directory, there simply isn't a file of that name there. See attachment for the files located in the UMS directory.

What I did notice is the following in the main log window after startup:

16:30:07 INFO Loading renderer configurations from ...

Thanks for the reply! While I'm not sure how this audio setting could be causing the freezing of the video under DLNA, I'm willing to set it up for future reference.
Problem is that I can't seem to find the Sony-BraviaXBR.conf file anywhere on iMac, or any other UMS configuration files for that ...
