While it may work, what is the downside? I assume there is one since this option is default off.

Oh wait, its not a "downside" type toggle, its a "TV Needs Feature or Not". Do you want TV UID so you can make a profile to include next release?
I suppose this brings up a potential feature ...

I can second this issue, with a Samsung 7500 "52.
Note that MKV is just a file container and has nothing to do with the actual video/audio format. Sumsung supports MKV just fine, but doesn't support some of the older divx/mp4 encoding formats. Same goes for some mp3 encodes, it seems to struggle ...
