Thx for feedback leroy. I figured out a process for myself. I found EditPadPro7 that can convert escaped unicode characters (I have a lot of those). And just opening files side by side wasn't too helpful in my case, as current Brazilian Portuguese file has less than half the lines of English file so ...

I was trying to give back to the project by providing a message file for my native language, but i have problem dealing with escaped unicode characters. Is there a practical/recommended way to to have those decoded during edition?

Just tried official 4.0.0 and subtitles are, indeed, OK.

Never tried official 4.0.0. Subtitles not working for me in any of the 3 builds you made available.....

P.S.: I am willing to help pursuing this bug if it helps the project. Nevertheless, if you are doing it for my benefit alone, don't worry about it, as I am OK in keep using working version 3.5.0.

3602b2b not working either. Including logs from working version, 3.5.0.
Note that I did not try any other version between 3.5.0 and 4.0.2.
P.S.: In case it's relevant, even though thread is about "F series", my Samsung TV is Series 6, not F.

Still no subtitles on Samsung TV with 4.0.2.
