Re: UMS won't launch

I have an idea of the cause, at one stage probably between 5.2 and 5.3 we switched method for determining write permissions. Before that, the way it was done was to actually try to write a file and see if that succeeded, but now the permissions is read instead. I'm trying to figure out if the permis...

Re: UMS won't launch

I don't have the full overview of what the temp folder is used for, but transcoding is a major part of it so moving it somewhere else probably isn't that interesting. What does the permissions on R:\temp\UMS say then?

Re: UMS won't launch

The simple solution to get UMS running would then be to right click the UMS icon and select "run as administrator" - but it won't solve the underlying problem, the fact that UMS needs to be handed a writable folder structure by Windows.

Re: UMS won't launch

There's nothing special in your configs, so that means you must have tweaked the Windows configuration. UMS runs as the current user (unelevated), so that means that the folder must be writable for either "everyone", "users" or the specific users in question. Since the drive is c...

Re: UMS won't launch

Actually, it's not as glib an answer is it sounds. The folder is created on the launch of UMS. I've changed the attributes, and I've deleted it outright. It gets created as a R.O. folder upon the launch of the software. UMS creates the "UMS" part of the path yes, but not "R:\temp&quo...

Re: UMS won't launch

Can you attach UMS.conf from the same folder as the log file?

Re: UMS won't launch

Ok, the problem is identified, but I'm unsure of the cause. The temp folder (R:\Temp\UMS in this case) isn't writable. Any idea as to why that isn't writeable, or better yet why that is the temp folder? UMS gets the temp folder from Windows, and usually that's "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local...

Re: UMS won't launch

It doesn't give me much to go on, can you check the logfile if there's anything in it? By default it's found in %programdata%\UMS and is called debug.log If you rightclick the "start button", select run and then paste %programdata%\UMS ...the folder should open in explorer. If there's anyt...

Re: Running out of transcoding

Sounds strange, is Windows doing the CPU throttling? In any case, it seems whatever is doing the throttling isn't doing a proper job. I hope the algorithm responsible does a better job than monitoring percentage CPU load, as that often isn't very interesting. That is an average per time and per core...
