Hi Subjunk,

Thanks again for this great release and your unremitting work. I really aprreciate what you're doing!

I was glad to see you improved the aspect ratio handling on Panasonic and Sony TVs. In this context, i would like to bring this thread to your attention: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=615

In this thread, OlliL explains how he managed to tackle a lot of aspect ratio problems (such as black borders, stretching or cropping) on the Sony EX715 and EX716. His tips & tricks are also valid for the EX711 model.

Maybe you can use this information and apply it in a more general way? I will leave this up to you as i can't evaluate this myself.

@Impee
I don't think this settings should be used because it will not be universal for any AR so some aspect ratios will be incorrectly displayed on TV.
Furthermore this will downscale all 1080p files to weird 1283x720 resolution and upscale any other low res files. It uses bicubic algorithm for rescaling so not the best too.

Code: Select all

mencoder_decode =  -vf softskip,expand=::::1:16/9:2,scale=1283:720 -lavcopts aspect=16/9
Btw. with this settings (using softskip at the beginning and :1:) you will get subtitles headache :mrgreen:

Right now, if I am not wrong, AR fix for Sony Bravia in new version is only with FFMPEG engine? 8-)

I was happy to see an entry about improved Sony Blu-ray support... but it appears to still fail quite decisively on most mkv (h264 encoded) files on the most recent x90 series of players (390,590,790) running the latest firmware. I'm not sure if this breaks compatibility with older DLNA Sony Blu-ray players, but for this series, the following conf video section works:

Supported = f:mpegps|mpegts v:mpeg1|mpeg2 a:ac3|dts|lpcm|mpa|mp3 m:video/mpeg
Supported = f:mpegts v:h264|vc1 a:ac3|dts|dtshd|truehd|aac|lpcm|mpa|mp3 m:video/vnd.dlna.mpeg-tts
Supported = f:mp4|m4v v:mp4|h264 a:ac3|dts|dtshd|truehd|aac|lpcm|mpa|mp3 m:video/mp4
Supported = f:avi|divx v:divx|mp4 a:ac3|lpcm|mpa|mp3 m:video/x-divx
Supported = f:mkv v:mp4|divx|h264 a:ac3|dts|dtshd|truehd|aac|lpcm|mpa|mp3 m:video/mp4
Supported = f:wmv v:wmv|vc1 a:wma m:video/mp4

Maybe this can be integrated into the next release somehow?

Thanks.
