Sony Bravia XBR transcoding configuration

Hi,

I recently replaced my TV for a Sony Bravia XBR-49X805G. I was able to set it up nearly the same way as the old one, cabled to my PC, with Internet shared over Ethernet. Everything "works fine". I get to access my media through the Video App, but rendering is slow, if I get anything to play at all. Some files won't stream, unless if not transcoded, or only with VLC, which hugely degrades image quality.

Is there some configuration I am missing?
