I have to turn my TV on before starting UMS for it to work

Post by danieljg »

Is this necessary by design? I'm usually in the room with the computer which means I have to turn my TV on, go start UMS and then go back to the TV. Is there any way I can get UMS to automatically recognize my TV is on after I start it?

This isn't how it's supposed to work.

UMS sends a message across the network every 10 seconds to identify itself, so maybe your TV has a bug that makes it not recognize those messages.
My TV has a bug where it won't pick up any media server unless I wait about 10 seconds after turning on the TV before I do anything. That's a Panasonic VT60.

It may not be just my TV as some other media servers I've tried are detected when they're turned on before my TV, but I would much rather use UMS if it was possible.
