Samsung HT-E3500

So I know it's a crappy Blu-ray unit and everything, and I don't know a lot about the details of vid files and everything, but I can't get this movie to play, and a lot of movies won't play also, and I'd like to find out why. Is it some setting I can't figure out (I have tried every permutation of clicking and un-clicking boxes in UMS) or is it just my samsung unit failing to be cool enough to get it? My computer is not old and crusty or anything, it's a dell xps-8500 which plays any media file (including this one) without hassle. I followed the 'how to ask for help' directions as best as I could. Thanks for everything.

Looks like I left out, most movie formats give me 'unsupported file format' error. I stay at home with 2 little kids and the server computer is on different floor so I haven't had a chance to run up and down figuring out what format the working or non-working ones are. Seems like if the transcoding is working properly, the format of the source shouldn't matter, but I may have a completely wrong idea of how this stuff works.

Check the documentation of your renderer and make sure you know which formats it supports via streaming, then follow the FAQ http://www.universalmediaserver.com/faq ... erSupport1 to tweak your profile

I've gotten as far as getting UMS to recognize the renderer, but I can't make heads or tails of 'tweaking the conf.' I can't translate the supported file formats part of the documentation into much that I understand in the conf file. Anyone out there want to have a look? The support page is here - http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/conte ... 1-0315.pdf and for fun, here's a copy of the renderer config as far as I've gotten it, just a copy of the allshare c/d conf with a different header and a line for "- Supports up to H.264 Level 4.1". Also, I can't seem to find the page that explains all the different options in the config file anymore.

Here's the debug log - seemed to play ok except for when it needed to transcode, but when I looked at the log it wasn't really recognizing the renderer. Looks like you put the file name in the line where the renderer's id was supposed to be. I fixed that part, trying again with my little fix. Nothing would play from the transcode folder, I tried a few different files because I wondered if it had something to do with subtitles or alternate languages, but no matter what file I tried from the transcode folder I got 'not supported file format.'

Debug log here with my little change to your conf file. Seems like it recognized it, but everything returned 'not supported file format.' Oh and I liked the new icon.

Fooled around some more - added some lines from the allshare conf, regarding mimetypes, extensions, subtitle header, supported subtitle formats. I bet the 'streamextensions' line made it so I can play stuff, but still no joy with transcoding. I dunno if this will help you, but the kids are taking a nap and it's on my mind. I recognize that the one you sent me is probably meant to test the transcoding. Also, it would be nice for others if https://github.com/UniversalMediaServer ... derer.conf the link to the file explaining the renderer config file was in the FAQ or somewhere easier to find.

And finally, I made some pretty random changes to the conf and got my movie with the subs to work, but only with mencoder, although ffmpeg had good video and garbled audio. After the movie, I discovered that some other files worked and some didn't, with and without different transcoding. Kids are now watching one that only worked transcoded with ffmpeg. At this point, I only hope this gives you some sort of helpful data, because I am pretty sure I borked the conf.
Also, I have been unable at any point to get UMS to give me the 2nd audio track or the subs without using one of the transcoders. Is this supposed to be the case? It seems most of the stuff I have should be supported by the ht-e3500 without any transcoding, but I have always ended up going to the transcoding folder for subs, and for movies that don't have english as their first track. I don't know if that is related to the conf or just me.
