[Solved] Please Help

Hello all. First time poster.

I have been using PS3 Media Server for years, and the other day I ran across Universal Media Server. It's great that someone picked up where PS3 Media server left off. The problem I'm having is that a huge portion of my collection is unplayable / unstreamable. Any and every title that streamed to my PS3 no longer does so using Universal Media Server. The odd title will play fine, but most do not. A lot of the ones that do not play/stream, I can get up and running if go into the transcode folder, (From the PS3) and start choosing different encoders. Something I never ever had to do using PS3 Media Server. The error that I get specifically is:

Media Server Error:
An HTTP error (500) has occured.

Has anyone else had these transitional problems going from PS3 Media Server to Universal Media Server??

Welcome PS3Guy, and i'm sorry that your having a hard time with UMS. Could you post a debug log with you attempting to play the troubled files and some that do work. Hopefully we can assist in finding you issue.

make sure you follow the Problem Reporting Guidelines in the red box at the top of this topic

Hello!! Thanks for the response and anticipated help. I will post the log. First let me say that It is strange that it will play some titles while not others. I can't pin it down to a specific reason why it chooses to consistently start/play some but not others. It's interesting to note that the debug log does not show the titles that did not play, it only lists the ones that started to play.

I've ran it with debug trace on, nothing changed - It does not log any errors of the videos I try to play that don't play. Nothing (errors) gets logged, the video simply doesn't play with the message flashing on my screen as I posted earlier.

Not a big deal, I'll just keep using PS3 media server, it works flawlessly. It's a shame really, UMS looks pretty cool too. Oh well

Wuuuupsss.... I figured it out. In fact I feel like a fool that I didn't pick up on this on my own earlier.

I'm running Windows 7 64bit and when I run PS3 Media server, I have to set it up as administrator status when it runs.
Looks like Universal Media Server behaves the same way, you have to set it up in the properties to run as an administrator..... even though your windows logon is already an administrator.

Interesting to note, PS3 Media Server doesn't run (start) at all unless I assign it admin status ... whereas UMS does run, and does play some videos, while not others - Assign it to admin status and it plays anything/everything I throw at it as did PS3 Media server.

Go figure!
